Bentota
Bentota is a resort town, ranked within the top 10 beaches in Asia according to a list compiled for Forbes Best Beaches in Asia Awards during 2010. An array of luxury hotels and resorts provide for a fitting location for a relaxing holiday by the beach. Bentota is the place to visit if you love water sports such as windsurfing, para-sailing and jet skiing among others.
The Bentota River winds its way through the town area, popular for thrilling river safaris allowing visitors to enjoy the cinnamon plantations, dense mangroves, nature resorts and temples which are further inland as well as the abundant bird life and occasional crocodile.
Other popular attractions of Bentota include is the estate and gardens of the renowned Sri Lankan Architect, Geoffrey Bawa ‘Lunuganga’ and that of his brother Bevis Bawa, named ‘Brief’.
