Rumassala
Legend : Rumassala is an oddly out of place hillock just outside the Galle harbour. According to legend, the origins of Rummassala are intertwined with the legend of the Ramayana. During the war epic battle between King Rama and King Ravana, Lakshman the brother of King Rama was mortally wounded and Lord Hanuman was tasked with to fetch a miracle herb from the Himalayas to save his life. It is said that Lord Hanuman unable to locate the particular herb brought back a chunk of the Himalayas and on his journey back to Lanka dropped fragments of the peak in five separate locations, Rummassala being one of them. Numerous medicinal herbs found on this hillock has sustained this legend to this day.
Renowned scientist Sir Arthur C. Clerk made Rumassala his first home upon arriving in Sri Lanka. Sir Clarke opined that the area has a magnetic anomaly and one of the lowest gravitational fields on earth.
