Rishi Visravasmuni
Legend : A stone monument found at Vessamuniya presently known as ‘Isurumuniya Viharaya’ in Anuradhapura of a bare bodied personality in meditation is thought to be the statue of Rishi Visravasmuni a great sage of ancient times and father of King Ravana. A head of a horse can be seen behind the right shoulder of the sculpture and therefore historians refer to this statue as “Man and Horse”. The sculpture also depicts a headdress and a “sacred thread” or poona noola - a thread worn by ancient monastic personnel which has led to the belief that this statue is of sage Rishi Visravasmuni and his white horse.
