Negombo is a coastal city along the country’s western shoreline surrounding the Negombo lagoon. The township had its start a trading port for Arab traders who came to Sri Lanka in search of cinnamon and subsequently survived three European conquests, and adjusting to the changes that came with it.
In the process Negombo evolved in to a smelting pot of diverse cultures, languages, religions and communities that is the heart of this bustling town. The old Dutch Canal and Fort are popular attractions of this city. Swimming, snorkeling, diving, wind Surfing, deep sea fishing and scuba diving are some of the activities that keep ocean lovers coming back for more.
